History
Back in 1968,
Dick Harris bought a single truck along with two trailers, and from a small terminal in
Lynchburg, Virginia, he established Dick Harris and Son Trucking.
More than 40 years later, that modest undertaking has grown to become one of the leading family-owned trucking firms in the East. Today, Harris Trucking has over 200 tractors, 400 trailers, and we employ more than 250 staff members and drivers.
In addition to the main headquarters in Madison Heights, Virginia (just outside of Lynchburg), Harris occupies terminals in Richmond, Virginia, and Blountville, Tennessee. Those central locations effectively position us to serve cities and ports throughout the Eastern and Central US. And while were ready and able to take our customers loads anywhere theres a paved road, we specialize in serving routes east of the Mississippi River.
While Harris Trucking primarily got its start hauling school supplies around Central Virginia, our customer list has grown in recent years to include such prominent names as Advance Auto, Greif Brothers (formerly Virginia Fibre), Eastman Chemical, Domtar Inc., Anheuser Busch, Rock-Tenn and many others. These world-class companies encouraged us to join them in their world-class quality efforts, so in March, 1999, we began the quest for ISO 9000 certification.
The very next year, we received our ISO 9002 Certificate of Registrationon our first try! Our genuine company-wide commitment to the stringent quality standards of ISO 9000 is expressed in our Quality Policy:
Harris Trucking Co., Inc., strives to meet or exceed customers expectations through safe, on-time delivery of freight. |
For us, that policy is more than just wordswe strive to put that policy into action each day. Proof of our commitment to high-quality performance is reflected in our on-time delivery record of more than 95%.
We believe that quality commitment is a significant factor in the growth weve experienced for over 40 years. We would welcome a chance to put that commitment to work for your company.
