Safety Newsletter - August 2007Are you prepared?
By Steven Powell
“Just
because you trained for something doesn't mean you prepared for it. “
Anonymous Driving/Safety:
You have been trained, are you prepared?
What
does it take to be prepared to do your job?
Training is the beginning, but preparation and a positive attitude
will accomplish the goal. As
you begin each day, do you take time to focus on the end results of your
actions at the end of the day? Stephen
Covey says in his book “7 Habits of Highly Effective People” to
“begin with the end in mind.” Are
you starting the day, the week, the month with your goals in mind?
Are you preparing yourself at the beginning of each day to do your
best and make sure that you are not going to have problems because you
have failed to take care of yourself or your equipment?
Begin
your day visualizing yourself finishing up having done your best.
Ø
Mark your
log to make sure you know how much time you have left to avoid violating
D.O.T. regulations. Ø
Walk around
your equipment every time that you get out and before you get in to ensure
that there are no “surprises.” Ø
Keep a
cushion of space around the vehicle at all times when driving to leave
yourself an “out” when other drivers cause problems. And
most importantly – get to your destination safely and let your loved
ones know you have completed another safe day at work. Yes
– Safety does save lives!
